Based on information supplied by DOC, Mt Earnslaw Station has closed public access to the summit of Mt Alfred/Ari, means above the bushline. The rest of the track is open as usual.
Just money grabbers who gives them the right to own the mountain

I don't have any further details - the information above was given to me by Geoff Owen (Qtn DOC) on my request as I (as the webmaster) was getting emails from people questioning the access closure.
His reply states:
"Geoffrey Thompson as the legal leaseholder of Mt Earnslaw Station (which includes Mt Alfred), recently exercised his right to close off public access to Mt Alfred summit. A decision I have had to respect.
However the DOC reserve from the car park to the upper bush line remains open to the public. Beyond the bush line to the summit is private property and now requires Mr Thompson’s permission."

Is there any particular reason for this closure and is this a temporary or permanent situation?
