DELAYS ON KINLOCH ROAD
Mar 18, 2016
UPDATE from Friday 18th March
This is to let you know that you can expect delays on the Kinloch Road again from today while Downers continues placing rock on an eroding stretch of river bank, very close to the road.
The area is around the south end of Kowhai Bush and the work is likely to extend through the weekend into next week.
The last period of heavy rain and high river levels has caused a section of the bank to undermine the road, so this work is being undertaken urgently.
This photo was taken from the road and gives an idea of how close the river is to the road edge.
UPDATE from Wednesday 9th March
This is to advise everyone who uses the Kinloch Road to expect delays near Kowhai Bush from lunchtime today (Wednesday March 9th) until Thursday night while Downers brings in rock to stabilise a stretch of the riverbank which is being eroded.
The river has changed its course after the recent heavy rain and without intervention it will wash out the road - at the worst point, the river is just meters from the road.
Delays are expected to be for about 10 minutes every hour - stop/go controls will be in place.
We will post updates on the Glenorchy, New Zealand Facebook page if the situation changes.
