WAKATIPU TRACKS UPDATE
Oct 27, 2016
Hi all,
Please find below an update on the current track conditions:
- Routeburn: thanks to a huge effort by DOC staff the Routeburn track is open; it will be slightly slower going than normal but staff are continuing to work on clearing the track and are hoping to have it back to its usual Great Walk standard by the end of next week. Short time delays may be expected where walkers meet the digger and chainsaw crew.
- Greenstone-Caples: the Greenstone-Caples tracks are passable but slow going due to windfall.
- Mt Crichton/Sam Summers loop track: there are a few trees down but the loop can still be completed.
- We have received reports that the Earnslaw Burn and Mr Alfred Tracks are currently impassable due to windfall; these tracks may not be cleared for a number of weeks due to the extent of damage elsewhere.
- The Greenstone Entrance Bridge to Elfin Bay will be closed for the day on Wednesday 26th October for maintenance works.
All other tracks are likely to be affected by windfall and storm damage, so if you see or hear of any issues please let me know.
Kind regards,
Susie Geh
