HONOURING THE FALLEN - GLENORCHY ANZAC DAY SERVICE

Apr 26, 2019

Flag is draped and surrounded by uniforms.

Service led by Paul Ferris.

Paul welcomed Councillor Ferguson from Queenstown Lakes District Council for his continuing support for our small community. A special welcome to serving and ex service personnel as well as welcoming other visitors who have joined the Glenorchy Community in Honour of the Fallen.

Paul began by saying ‘The ANZAC service gives us an opportunity to remind ourselves that through the selfless actions of others we have the right to be free in this country. This freedom was fought for and should never be taken for granted.’

Wreaths are laid and Poppies were placed as Ronda Gollop read out the names of the Fallen from World War One and Two.

To help connect us with the 2019 theme of Families, the crowd reflected on the strain on families as they parted for service overseas as "Now is the Hour" was sung by Debbie Milliken

Reader 5 - Ode to the Fallen - Pam Henderson

In the spirit of ANZAC, both the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems’ were played followed by The Lord’s Prayer led by Ruth Ann Anderson. Paul Ferris acknowledged and thanked everyone for their support as well as a special thank you to the staff of Glenorchy School for their involvement with the children and the art work in the supper room.

Thank you Ian Smith for capturing and sharing these beautiful images with us.

Gorettie Breitenberger
