JOY ST GEORGE Gallery
I was raised on the Mount Aurum high country sheep station at Skippers, just over the hill from Glenorchy.
My mother, Terri Macnicol, wrote a book about our life up there and, looking back through her journal and my childhood memories, as it was for my Glenorchy friends, life was hard but simple. Home-schooled and endlessly self-entertained, we enjoyed a close affinity with nature in those rugged hills.
When I took up my brushes again recently, it felt natural for me to paint the native flora, fauna and our high country. Living currently in a small town unit, potted plants have also become a focus for painting, affording hours of pleasure.
I have had several exhibitions in Dunedin, and am enjoying selling my work to those who also know and love the high country.
